Hi there! I’m Barbara, creator of Crumbs in the Binding. I’m thrilled you’re here!
At some point in 2017, I began reading again. And I mean REALLY reading again! Sometimes all it takes is one really good book to get you excited again about literature. Well, isn’t that true of everything? One really good challenging workout, one amazing meal, a perfectly arranged song – all of it can be absolutely transformative!
Two things stuck out to me in all my reading: the first was to eliminate the word BUSY from my vocabulary. I grew tired of listening to the excuses that flowed out of my mouth that prevented me from doing things I cared about! I’m not too busy at all to take care of myself and fill my soul with things that bring meaning to my life.
“Busyness is not an excuse I can afford to give because time for my passions matters.” -Jessica N. Turner, The Fringe Hours
The second, was that God made us to enjoy beautiful things. We are surrounded by beautiful things, from the majestically-colored sky, to the vibrant spices in an Indian dish, and of course, to the well-crafted novel.
I found that as I surrounded myself with these beautiful things, that empty, half-hearted feeling that so many of us live with was exchanged for a life that was filled with joy.
“It would seem that Our Lord finds our desires not too strong, but too weak. We are half-hearted creatures, fooling about with drink and sex and ambition when infinite joy is offered us, like an ignorant child who wants to go on making mud pies in a slum because he cannot imagine what is meant by the offer of a holiday at the sea. We are far too easily pleased.” – C.S. Lewis, The Weight of Glory and Other Addresses
Crumbs in the Binding is my humble attempt to share the words and the food that has inspired me and that I hope, will in turn bring joy into your life.
